USMNT showed their potential in a big way in their World Cup opener.
Playing on home soil for the first time in 30 years, USMNT played what felt like their best soccer in decades, comfortably defeating Paraguay 4-1 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
It was a historic night in many ways for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who received words of encouragement from Donald Trump before stepping onto the field.
The three-goal margin of victory was the United States’ largest at a World Cup since the inaugural tournament in 1930.
Folarin Balogun gave a perfect 10 out of 10 performance, scoring twice in the first half to become the first American with two goals in a World Cup fixture.
Christian Pulisic also shone before being substituted off at half-time with a calf injury.
After the USA’s incredible start to the tournament, ticket prices for their next two World Cup games have soared on resale sites.
For their next fixture against Australia in Seattle on Friday, the cheapest available ticket on StubHub and SeatGeek rose above $1,800, according to The Athletic.
Compared to three days ago, the get-in price for that match is up 63 percent, according to TicketData.com.
The cost for a ticket of their third group match against Turkey at SoFi Stadium has also risen by 66 percent compared to three days earlier.
Tickets for games across the board have been rising, but the two US matches were the second and third highest riders, behind only the Netherlands and Japan matchup.
If the US win Group D, they will be playing their round-of-32 match in at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium at the beginning of July.
Tickets for this rose from less than $900 to $1,124 less than 30 minutes after the referee ended the USA vs Paraguay match.
Both matches are still days away, allowing for further potential price hikes.
For the first time in history, FIFA are using what it calls ‘variable pricing’ — also known as dynamic pricing to sell seats for games.
The approach sees prices fluctuate based on real, or perceived, demand for games.
The decision to use dynamic pricing has been widely criticized in recent weeks and months leading up to the tournament.
The price of the best available World Cup final tickets have risen to $32,970, there is real worry that stands could be empty come July 19.
