The Plant City Police Department said in a statement that the victims included a grandmother, 55; her daughter, 28; and the mother’s 4-year-old and 4-month-old children.
They were not identified, and the department did not provide information about potential suspects or motive.
Officers in Plant City, east of Tampa, found the mother and children in an area north of downtown Plant City after responding to a report of a disturbance, the department said.
The children were pronounced dead at the scene. The mother later died at a local hospital, according to police. A third child found at the location unharmed, the department said.
The grandmother was found dead at a second location a half-mile away, the department said.
Police are seeking the public’s help, asking for security video from the area from between 5:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. May 3. The department said some of the victims traveled on foot, and investigators are seeking video of a woman walking with three young children.
The department described the investigation as ongoing and said it was withholding additional details about the case.
