One man stands in the way of the long-awaited all-British showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. His name is Kristian Prenga.
Few will have heard of the Albanian heavyweight before today, when it was announced he would be squaring off with Joshua this summer.
The pair are set to lock horns on July 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in an ‘Esports World Cup’ event, live on DAZN.
If Joshua can overcome the unknown quantity, then he will punch his ticket for a long-overdue bout with Fury, tentatively pencilled in for November.
However, Prenga is fully intent upon spoiling the party.
“Anthony Joshua is a great fighter, but he made a terrible miscalculation in picking me as his opponent,” said Prenga.
“This is the kind of fight that changes everything in my life and his.
“I know they have big plans ahead after this fight.
“I know they are overlooking me. I’m happy about that.
“I will derail their plans and shock the world this July in Saudi Arabia.”
Kristian Prenga’s last fight and record
Prenga boasts a 20-1 record with all 20 of his wins coming by way of knockout.
His sole defeat came in 2017 when he dropped a unanimous decision loss to Italian journeyman Giovanni Auriemma.
The most notable name on the 35-year-old’s résumé is Joey Dawejko, who was rumoured to have hurt Joshua in sparring before his inaugural encounter with Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019.
Prenga last fought in February when he knocked Joe Jones inside the opening stanza.
Is Kristian Prenga ranked, and what titles has he won?
Prenga is not ranked by any of the four major sanctioning bodies at heavyweight.
He did, however, briefly hold the North American Boxing Association title after scoring a third-round stoppage win over the unheralded Samuel Crossed.
While he was born in Orosh, Albania, Prenga now resides in Edgewater, New Jersey, making him eligible for the regional belt.
At the time of writing, he is ranked second among active Albanian heavyweights by BoxRec behind Nelson Hysa (24-0).

What is Kristian Prenga’s fighting style?
Prenga has been picked with the Fury fight in mind.
The Albanian is a long, awkward boxer-mover who will help prepare Joshua for the big one with his long-time rival.
Standing 6ft 5in tall, the Albanian is four inches shorter than Fury, but he uses his height and reach well behind the jab.
He throws a lot of uppercuts and bolo punches like Fury and is a decent body puncher.
His straight right hand and left hook to the liver have ended most of his bouts inside the distance.
