UFC 328: What has been said?
Chimaev and Strickland have been trading verbal blows for far longer than since their title fight was announced.
The pair have trained together in Las Vegas before and the outcomes of the sessions have been a major talking point leading up to UFC 328.
Chimaev has insisted that he submitted Strickland more than once in sparring, while the challenger claims he made the champion ‘quit’ during training.
‘Borz’ said last month that he couldn’t promise not to ‘kill’ Strickland if the pair ever met in the streets.
So Strickland took to the streets at Newport Beach, California, where Chimaev is currently preparing for UFC 328 at Santo Studios.
“I was on Instagram and some stupid s*** popped up in my feed about Chimaev saying he’ll try to fight me or kill me in the streets,” Strickland explained on social media.
“I was like ten minutes from [Chimaev’s] gym. I was dropping tags and locations all day on my Instagram.
“The homies that train with you follow me. They were seeing my stories. You had to know where I was at.
“Part of me thought you’d show up… I’m like the last dude in America you should threaten, but I guess if you don’t show up, you don’t show up.”
Strickland has previously labelled Chimaev a ‘f***ing coward’ for not being an active UFC champion.
Meanwhile, UFC president Dana White has already revealed that the security presence in Newark will be ramped up for the main event.
He also told the Spinnin Backfist MMA Show in April that there will be no pre-fight face-off for Paramount’s promotional material, as seen for previous numbered cards.
There will, of course, remain a face-off and an electric press conference during fight week.
“Strickland looked incredible in his last performance,” White said.
“How much security do you think we’re going to need for Chimaev vs Strickland?
“The main event is the fight that people have been waiting for for a long time.”
