Eberechi Eze’s form for Arsenal could see him starting for England at the World Cup… on the left wing.
That’s the view of talkSPORT Sunday Edition co-host Shaun Custis, who believes the 27-year-old could be preferred ahead of natural forwards Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford.
The Crystal Palace legend brought up his tenth Gunners goal across all competitions since joining in a deal rising to £67.5million last summer in Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Newcastle.

Of his 45 outings for Arsenal, Eze has been deployed on the left wing on 11 occasions – chipping in with a solitary goal and assist.
And it’s a position that Eze has been accustomed to playing while on international duty for England with eight of his 16 matches coming from the left.
His position was the topic of discussion on talkSPORT’s Sunday Edition, with co-host Henry Winter believing he must be played in the middle to get the best out of him.
The Sun’s head of sport said: “I think if you talk to Arsenal fans they would have rather seen him used more often this season, he’s had injuries, but also he’s sat on the bench for a while.
“And also, when he’s been used, they’ve played him wide left, whereas actually I think he’s a No.10, I think that’s his best [position], he’s a left-sided No.10.”
Responding, Custis, who was in the stands to watch Eze down his beloved Magpies, then quickly pointed out that Thomas Tuchel will utilise him on the left.
He remarked: “That gets you in the England debate, because we’ll have to play him on the left if we want to start him in the team.”
Hitting back, Winter simply stated: “Well, he’s not going to get in the England team.”
After asking who would start ahead of him on the left wing, Winter said: “Your mate Gordon or Rashford.”
Custis wasn’t having, saying no to the duo being named in the line-up, before saying: “It might be Eze.”
A perplexed Winter was left baffled by Custis’ notion that Newcastle’s Gordon or Barcelona loan star Rashford won’t be selected to start in the upcoming tournament in North America.
After being pushed by Winter as to whether he truly believes Eze will get the nod, Custis said: “Possibly, he’s in good form!”
There was concern for Eze – and Kai Havertz – following Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Newcastle after the pair went off due to injury.
However, Arteta allayed fears that the pair have suffered serious knocks as Arsenal look to complete the Premier League and Champions League double.
He told Match of the Day: “Both of them had to come off, I think it was small niggles.
“We don’t know the extent of that. Probably tomorrow we will know more.”
