Bryson DeChambeau is having a torrid 2026, and Tiger Woods’ former coach knows what’s holding him back.
The LIV Golf star fell short of the cut line at the US Open, after he shot 5-over 75 on Friday.
He led an all-star cast of former champions to be sidelined at Shinnecock Hills, with Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm and title holder J.J. Spaun all missing the cut.
For DeChambeau, though, this has become a familiar feeling.
The American has now missed the weekend at all three majors this year, after disappointing finishes at the Masters and PGA Championship.
Following his latest early exit, golf journalist Kevin Van Valkenburg asked his followers — and ‘actual’ DeChambeau fans — to explain what’s holding him back in 2026.
Bryson DeChambeau urged to fix major flaw amid latest missed cut
“I would like to hear from actual Bryson fans: What’s the deal?” Van Valkenburg posted on X.
“Three straight MCs at majors should be the impetus to reassess everything. Does he still want to be a serious golfer?
“I want him to be one. Golf is better when he’s involved. This isn’t fun to watch him stink.”
Van Valkenburg’s comments, of course, were flooded by fans sharing their thoughts.
Some blamed his ‘data driven’ approach to golf, and other suggested DeChambeau simply suffering from using his own ‘3D printed clubs’.
Amongst those to reply was Hank Haney, a former coach of all-time great Woods.
“Bryson DeChambeau is my favorite touring pro but his swing is so flawed and it is beyond me why he doesn’t fix it,” he wrote.
While he didn’t go any further in explaining what he thought was wrong, Haney’s assessment was certainly scathing.
Haney was Woods’ swing coach for six years, between 2004 and 2010. During that time, the former world No.1 won six of his 15 majors.
Bryson DeChambeau on verge of embarrassing major quadruple
Two-time US Open champion DeChambeau, meanwhile, declined interviews after crashing out at Shinnecock.
But he admitted recently that could miss the cut at all of the majors.
The Crushers GC captain will have one last attempt to make the weekend at the Open Championship in Scotland next month.
“Missed cuts are gonna happen. I might miss all four of them in majors this year,” he told Flushing It Golf during an interview earlier this month.
“That’s just golf. Like, I’m playing great.
“I just haven’t shown up when it mattered most. But I’ve played well out here on LIV, and I’m working on my golf swing really hard, and, I feel like it’s in a really solid place.
“It’s very close to some of my best golf ever.”
Having missed another cut, DeChambeau will be hoping his ‘best golf ever’ can arrive sooner rather than later.
If it doesn’t, he could be in trouble once again at the Open.
