Simon Jordan had a peculiar choice of words to describe his thoughts on Erling Haaland, and the man himself has responded.
A goalscoring extraordinaire, Norway and Manchester City striker Haaland is considered to be one of the best players in world football.
The 25-year-old has scored 356 goals in senior football for both club and country, four of which have come at the World Cup this summer.
Haaland isn’t the only player who bags goals for fun, with French star Kylian Mbappe also regarded as one of football’s outstanding talents.
But when asked who he’d prefer to hypothetically play for England, talkSPORT’s Jordan made it clear where his allegiance lies.
On White and Jordan, he said: “Well, given I think that Haaland’s a rude, unpleasant little toad, I would go down the route of Mbappe.”
Jordan’s remark stems from an encounter he had with Haaland at a padel court when on holiday in Marbella.
Jim White gave the lowdown on what happened: “Because of the one occasion in Spain, when he’s playing padel tennis, and he’s sitting there with Alf-Inge Haaland.
“Erling comes over and says to Simon, ‘You must stop taking my photograph’. He wasn’t!
“You got your beef up, you were saying, ‘I’m not trying to photograph you. He thought your phone was out and you were trying to get a picture of him.”
The ‘toad’ remark from Jordan, who also called him a ‘little twit’, caught the attention of Haaland, who left a comment on Instagram.
“Don’t know what little twit / toad means but I’ll take that from him,” he remarked.
A fan also pointed out that Jordan thinks he is rude, but Haaland replied: “That’s a compliment from him. Expected worse.”
White read out Haaland’s confused comment to Jordan, who cheekily acknowledged it as a way of saying sorry.
“Well, clearly he recognises the error of his ways. I’ll accept that as an apology,” he said.
Jordan added: “If anyone knows, for what this is worth, anything about me, the last thing I want is to take pictures of footballers.”
How is Haaland doing at the World Cup?
Norway had not played at a World Cup since 1998, but Haaland was on hand to help seal a return with an excellent qualifying campaign.
He netted 16 goals in total, with five of those coming in one match during the 11-1 thrashing of Moldova.
Haaland made his World Cup debut against Iraq and scored two goals in the 4-1 group stage win.
Another double followed as Norway beat Senegal 3-2 to qualify for the last 32, where they will take on Ivory Coast at 6pm UK time, live on talkSPORT.
Brazil will be their next opponents should they win, and it could very well be England who meet them in the quarter-finals.
