Saturday horse racing tips
Sandown
- 1.45: Wilstar 12/1 & Kocktail Bleu 11/1 (1pt each)
- 2.20: Doyen Quest 5/2 (1pt)
- 2.55: Solness 9/2 (1pt)
- 3.30: Livin On Luco 12/1 (1pt)
Wilstar & Kocktail Bleu
There’s as many as 19 runners for this Novices’ Champions Final Handicap Hurdle.
Which means there’s plenty of angles for an each-way bet with the odds starting at around 5’s.
Wilstar stands out almost immediately for Sean Bowen and Olly Murphy with the pair in exceptional form whether together or not.
This six-year-old has proven to be progressive and after the last win at Warwick in March ought to continue, provided his jumping does tighten up a bit having not been fluent two from the finish last time.
Another is fairly short compared to the rest as well, but it’s Kocktail Bleu, who has impressed a lot even in defeat when placing behind Baron Noir for instance.
There’s definitely a case to be made for him not having shown his best yet and off the same rating as Wilstar could be another danger at a solid each-way price around 11’s.
Doyen Quest
Found the Grade 1 at Aintree a bit too tough of a task but back down slightly in trip on top of the fact he won so well at Exeter suggests these slightly calmer waters are worth backing him in for.
The Skeltons are on fire this season and that includes the last two weeks with a 30% strike-rate each.
Solness
You absolutely cannot fault Jonbon but he’s been second on three occasions this season, two of those came over this distance.
And was fortunate on one occasion to finish 2nd due to a faller so there’s a suspicion it might be worth siding against him here.
Solness is the one that stands out for me given his price and close second at Aintree earlier this month just a neck second to the impressive Grey Dawning.
Livin On Luco
Incredibly consistent since March 2025 over 3m+ with the exception of one run at Newcastle over 4m1f but that’s to be expected on occasion over that kind of test.
Placed a short head second at Exeter last time out over an extended 3m6f and really has the makings of a horse ready to win one of these soon.
Came fourth of 19 at Chepstow in the Welsh Grand National off the same weight and is therefore dangerously weighted in this field regardless of rivals.
