Rory McIlroy will make his return to action next month at the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow.
The Northern Irishman is yet to feature since claiming his second successive Masters at Augusta earlier this month.
And that has seen him miss out on a potential whopping $49.5m purse.
McIlroy joined Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win the Masters in consecutive tournaments.
However, there has since been a three-week hiatus from all forms of golf.
Fans have been left wondering when the 36-year-old would make his return to the green after skipping this week’s Cadillac Championship.
That followed his bypassing of the Zurich Classic and RBC Heritage shortly after picking up his second green jacket.
Back on familiar ground
But fans now know that McIlroy will make his grand return at the Truist Championship starting on May 6 – an event he has won on four occasions.
The news was announced via the tournament’s social media account.
The post on X read: “Welcome six-time major champion, @McIlroyRory, to the Truist Championship!”
The tournament will provide McIlroy with the opportunity to fine-tune his skills ahead of the PGA Championship which tees off on May 14.
His last victory at Quail Hollow came in 2024 when he recorded a five-shot victory over Xander Schauffele.
He finished in a tie for seventh in 2025, six shots behind eventual winner Sepp Straka.
McIlroy stopped short of committing to a host of events in the weeks following the Masters claiming he wanted to be more selective about the tournaments he plays in in 2026.
He also said he did not plan to take a long period off following his heroics at Augusta.
“I think different (the schedule between events). Different (from 2025),” McIlroy told reporters earlier this month.
“Yeah, I said at the start of the weekend here I felt like the Grand Slam was the destination, and I realized it wasn’t. I’m on this journey to — I don’t know, I just won my sixth major, and I feel like I’m in a really good spot with my game and my body.
“I’ve waited so long to win the Masters, and all of a sudden I win two in a row.
“So I still want to enjoy it. I’ve got a couple of weeks off before I go back to play competitive golf, but I don’t think I’ll go through that lull of motivation or the sort of things that I was feeling last year post winning this tournament.”
