It last hosted a major in 1962 when Grand Slam legend Gary Player won the PGA Championship.
It has held several PGA Tour events in recent years, as well as the 2020 Women’s PGA Championship.
Opened in 1896, the Donald Ross-designed course underwent a Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner renovation in 2018 and is a clever mix of shorter, strategic par 4s, two gettable par 5s and a string of brutal par 3s.
It has over 200 bunkers and is laid out over very hilly terrain.
The notable holes include the first – an intimidating opener which plays through a valley and steeply up to the green – as well as the picturesque 5th hole, the challenging 11th uphill par-4 and the stunning 17th par-3 over water.
For this major, only one of the four par 3s will play below 215 yards, while the finishing hole has been lengthened for the event and will be a tricky finale.
Aronimink is famous for its row of deck chairs overlooking the 18th green – it remains to be seen who will get to sit in the best seats in the house coming tournament week.

“I always try to lean as much as I can on my mind,” said Scheffler after his winning round last year.
“I think that’s probably my greatest strength. You know, like today and this week I really just feel like I did just such a good job of staying patient when I wasn’t swinging it my best but I hit the shots when I needed to.
“I hit the important shots well this week, and that’s why I’m walking away with the trophy.
“This back nine will be one that I remember for a long time. It was a grind out there. I think at one point on the front I maybe had a four or five-shot lead, and making the turn, I think I was tied for the lead.
“So to step up when I needed to the most, I’ll remember that for a while.”
