Nottingham Forest have been told Liverpool star Curtis Jones is a transfer that ‘can’t go wrong’ as they look to replace Elliot Anderson.
The Tricky Trees were forced to relinquish their star midfielder as Man City won the race for his signature.
They do so by smashing the British record, set when Declan Rice joined Arsenal for £105m, and gaining a cool £116m.
Not bad for a player they signed for just £35m two years ago as they picked Newcastle’s pocket, and didn’t even give them a sell-on clause.
The central midfielder was an instant hit at the City Ground thanks to his precise passing, fine footwork and impressive work rate.
It earned him a call-up to the England squad in 2025 and he’s now one of the first names on the team sheet for Thomas Tuchel at the 2026 World Cup.
Forest, though, must find someone to fill a gaping hole in their midfield.
And former Tricky Tree James Perch reckons one player should be on their radar to help replace him.
Although he also believes two signings are needed to fully make up for his lost talent.
“To try and replace Elliot Anderson and what he does is going to be very hard,” he told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
“I say it’s going to probably take two players to cover what he does because he does so much for Forest in that midfield. But the obvious one I think would be Curtis Jones.
“I think he’s proven. He’s an England international. So you’re not taking a gamble on him and hoping he hits the ground running. Hopefully with his experience and all the games he’s played for Liverpool, he will just walk straight into the team and almost kick on from where Elliot Anderson left off.
“I don’t think he’s as good as Elliot Anderson, but I think he’s a replacement where you can’t go wrong with him.”
Jones is a wanted man and Serie A giants Inter Milan were also keen on his services.
They had an approach rebuffed with Liverpool insisting they value the player at around £40m.
That’s despite their academy product only having one year left on his current contract.
He’s slipped down the pecking order at Anfield with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, all ahead of him.
Jones also had a rumoured ‘tiff’ with former manager Arne Slot and an outburst on TV.
Slot exited the Anfield club earlier this summer and is being replaced by former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.
Also leaving Liverpool this summer are club legends Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, while Ibrahima Konate is joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Incoming is defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £60m, while the Reds also hijacked Newcastle’s move for Spanish star Victor Munoz for a fee worth £34.5m.
