Noel Gallagher has revealed the moment he got on the wrong side of Pep Guardiola following comments made live on talkSPORT.
The rock-and-roll superstar is a regular on the airwaves discussing his beloved Manchester City, but one of his opinions on the title race found its way back to Guardiola, who ‘took it personally’.
Gallagher and the Man City boss have grown close during his decade in charge of the club, with him beginning and ending his leaving statement with a mention of the Oasis member.
They sat down together to chat in a new interview on Man City’s channels, reflecting on Guardiola’s tenure and their friendship.
Within that, Gallagher brought up a moment where he admitted that he couldn’t see City going on to win the Premier League.
Arsenal would go on claim the title in the end of course, but Guardiola was not best pleased that his mate didn’t have any hope.
“I think we’d won at Anfield, we’d won somewhere and gone two points behind [Arsenal],” Gallagher started.
“They’d asked me to go on talkSPORT and said, ‘Do you think you can win the league?’ I went, ‘I’m not sure we can do it this year…'”
‘I took that personally’
But as Gallagher was repeating what he said, Guardiola quickly interjected, wiggling his finger and saying: “No, no, no, no.”
“You said, ‘I’m sure we’re not going to win’. Unfortunately, you were right, but you said you were completely sure and I said ‘OK.'”
Gallagher then explained further, as Guardiola giggled in his seat: “The next day I got a phone call… I’m lying at home on the bed and the phone’s going and I let it go to answer machine.
“But then you kept ringing and I was like, ‘God…’ and I was speaking to you and you were like, ‘Ohhhh, there you are, there you are, the big rock star. You don’t believe? You don’t believe?’
“And you said, ‘If you don’t believe, the next one won’t believe and then the next one won’t believe, nobody believes!’
“It was like being called into the headmaster’s office. It went on for a while and then you said to me, ‘I have one more question for you. Do you f****** love me?’ I said, ‘Yeah,’ and he went, ‘Do you believe?’
“I said, ‘Well, I f****** believe now yes!”
Following that story, Guardiola went on to admit: “I took that personally, I said, ‘OK, believe when you see.'”
Gallagher replied: “It was the one time that I was genuinely like, ‘F***, I’ve f****** upset the boss!'”
The chat between the pair was released following Guardiola’s final game in charge of Man City last Sunday afternoon.
City were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa at the Etihad, but the manager emotionally spoke to fans after the match.
And the entire squad, players and staff enjoyed a parade around Manchester to celebrate all 20 trophies won under their boss.
