Ibrahima Konate is set to leave Liverpool, talkSPORT understands.
The French centre-back’s contract runs out in a matter of weeks on July 1, and an agreement over a new deal has not been reached.
Negotiations have been ongoing for months between the Reds and their star defender, with speculation over his future rife.
Konate has been heavily linked to Real Madrid as he heads into the summer transfer window with his contract expiring.
But he had indicated that a new Liverpool deal was close to being signed in April, despite the constant rumours of an exit.
He said: “There are many things people have said but for a long time we have spoken with the club and we are close to an agreement.
“I think everyone wished for that for as soon as possible but we are in a good way.”
Konate added: “For sure, there is a big chance that I’m here next season. This is what I’ve always wanted.”
However, those claims from the 27-year-old appear to have gone nowhere, as he will depart the club this summer.
He exits Liverpool along with Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson, who are also leaving at the end of their deals.
All three stars were part of the Premier League-winning Reds squad of the 2024/25 season, becoming legends at the club.
They all played their final game at Anfield in the 1-1 draw against Brentford last Sunday, with Konate not receiving the same send-off as Salah and Robertson, as his future was still unknown.
Konate’s Liverpool career
Konate will leave Liverpool after winning the Premier League, FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and the Community Shield.
He played 183 times for the club in all competitions, with 118 of those coming in the English top-flight.
The strong partnership formed with captain Virgil van Dijk became a key asset for Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.
Performances slipped this season, along with the rest of the Liverpool squad, as they struggled in their title defence under Slot.
But he still played 36 of the Reds’ 38 league games this term.
The France international also featured in 10 Champions League games, taking his overall tally for the club up to 28.
Already prepared
Liverpool are now going to have to replace one of their ever-present stars heading into the next campaign.
But they may already have their ready-made replacements at the club, with Jeremy Jacquet arriving this summer.
The Reds signed Jacquet for £60million in the winter window, agreeing to allow him to stay at Rennes until July 1.
So, as Konate leaves on that date, the 20-year-old will join.
Jacquet played 21 games for Rennes in France this season before picking up a serious shoulder injury that kept him sidelined.
As well as the Frenchman, teenager Giovanni Leoni will provide some depth at centre-back as he returns from injury.
Leoni’s debut with Liverpool ended in tears as he was stretchered off with an ACL tear that has kept him out ever since.
