Sean Dyche has backed the Scottish FA to promote former Premier League striker Steven Naismith to manager.
Steve Clarke immediately stepped down from his role as head coach after his squad failed to progress past the group stage, despite signing a four-year contract extension before the tournament.

The 62-year-old made history by leading Scotland to their first World Cup in 28 years; however, he chose to leave on his own terms after a disappointing group stage exit.

Dyche and the former Republic of Ireland international Steven Reid discussed on talkSPORT’s World Cup Weekender what direction the nation should head in.
Could it be David Moyes?
Reid, a former Scotland Coach, said: “I think if David Moyes was going to get the position, it’s because he has always wanted it.
“The Scottish FA, some of the managers they’ve got written down on their shortlist, they would not have the money to pay them. England would.”
Dyche added: “They would not be able to pay David Moyes what a Premier League club can. I’m not putting words in David Moyes’ mouth, he’s done a great job at Everton. But if he was to go for the Scotland job, it wouldn’t be for the money.”
Instead, Reid tipped an outside candidate for the vacancy, saying: “I’ll tell you who’s an outsider for it, he’s managed, players respect him, he’s hungry. It’s a bit off the bat but Steven Naismith, and he’s the assistant to Steve.

“The Welsh have done it before by giving someone an opportunity role, handing it to the former players, and then usually at some point they will move on.
“They will have to because the list drawn up by the Scottish FA is crazy.”
The former Hearts head coach was a successful Scotland forward, scoring ten goals in 51 appearances and was assistant manager under Clarke.
Naismith has familiarity with the role due to working closely with the current squad and the SFA hierarchy.
Additionally, the appointment of the 39-year-old would be a low-cost and low-disruption move for the Tartan Army.
He had a fine career which saw him play at Kilmarnock and Rangers before a three-and-a-half year spell at Everton.

However, many supporters are calling for a more aggressive and established manager to take the national team forward, rather than promoting from within.
Moyes is constantly linked with the role whenever it becomes vacant.

Back in 2021, the ex-Manchester United manager publicly voiced his desire to manage on the international stage.
He said: “Yeah, I do now [have ambitions to manage Scotland].
“I’m getting now to a stage in my career where I really enjoy club management and feel I have unfinished business to do yet.
“But I think at the right time, when things are right for me and if it’s right for Scotland, then it might be a consideration.”
