England have now officially kicked off their 2026 World Cup campaign and their pursuit of glory has begun with a win.
Thomas Tuchel’s England won their Group L opener against Croatia 4-2 on Wednesday night to get off to a brilliant start.
And there were certainly some encouraging signs to suggest that football could finally come home after 60 years of hurt.
England’s World Cup fixtures
England beat Croatia in their opening match on Wednesday night, in what was a rematch of their semi-final clash in 2018.
Harry Kane scored two, while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford helped the Three Lions take three points in the second half.
Next up, their second group game will be against Ghana at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts on Tuesday, June 23 at 9pm.
And their group campaign ends on Saturday, June 27 against Panama in a visit to the MetLife Stadium in New York at 10pm UK time.
Despite a lengthy cross-country trip through America, England have been handed kinder kick-off times in the group stage.
But they know that their path to the final is anything but generous should all of their main rivals finish top of their respective groups.

What has been said?
If England are to go all the way this summer, they are going to do it in Tuchel’s way, and Tuchel’s way only.
Speaking after the Croatia win, which included an improved second-half performance, Kane revealed: “The manager gave a speech [at half-time]. He just said: ‘If we lose, we lose, we lose in our way.'”
And then Tuchel went on to admit post-match: “I wanted them to do it our way, be brave, courageous, intense and on the front foot and just go for it.
“Just be active. I encouraged them with words which were short and calm.
“That was the main message to encourage them and tell them that we trusted them.”
