Wycombe Wanderers boss Michael Duff unleashed a furious post-match interview with their play-off push ending with a whimper.
The League One club were beaten 4-3 at Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon, leaving the Chairboys 12th in the division with one match remaining.
Following the match, the Chairboys boss was far from impressed with his players.
He revealed in an interview with the club’s media channels that he had told his squad they had ‘wasted ten-and-a-half months’ after missing out on the play-offs.
Wycombe are 12 points adrift of the top six after losing four of their last five League One matches.
Brutal interview admission
Duff made the revelation during a brutally honest interview with the club’s media channels.
The five-minute outburst saw him admit: “I’ve just told the players they’ve wasted ten-and-a-half months of their lives.
“You look at the teams at the top end of the table that we’ve beaten at home then been really good away.
“The two teams that have been promoted, Bolton, Reading, didn’t get anything from the Bradford game.”
He continued: “It’s frustrating. I don’t like losing and I’ve said it to them before. It’s easy for me to say but I know what a dressing room should smell like and feel like and we don’t have that.
“That’s the bit I need to change because there is some good players in there, I’m not questioning anyone’s character here.
“But the best players aren’t always the nicest people on the pitch, in training, off the pitch, be humble, be a nice person, be polite, don’t pick and choose who you would say hello to.
“We have too many that are like that all the time, we need to switch that on and off.”
Duff has won 19 of his 44 matches in charge since being appointed by Wycombe in September.
He previously won promotion with Cheltenham Town in 2021 as they won the League Two title.
However, the 48-year-old will have to wait at least another year to achieve the feat with Wycombe.
It follows previous spells in charge of Barnsley, Swansea City and Huddersfield Town.
Wycombe, who host Rotherham on the final day of the season, will now spend a fifth consecutive campaign in League One.
The club qualified for the play-offs last season but were beaten on aggregate by Charlton Athletic.
