Danny Murphy has revealed the much-anticipated ending to his viral story about his cat that disappeared…
And the ex-England midfielder interrupted the BBC’s World Cup coverage to give the fans exactly what they wanted.
Murphy went viral earlier this week as he randomly told a story on live TV about his cat going missing in the back of a Royal Mail van.
He spoke about his old pet during the broadcast of Norway’s round of 32 victory over the Ivory Coast on Tuesday evening.
After a mention of Norwegian winger Oscar Bobb, he said: “I used to have a cat called Bob. He jumped into the back of a Royal Mail van, and we lost him. Sad, really. Anyway…”
The clip of Murphy telling that short story during the game picked up millions of views and he was more than aware of that.
So much so that BBC commentator Steve Bower brought it up again as the pair combined for coverage of Spain vs Austria.
During Spain’s 3-0 win on Thursday, Bower began: “You told the story about your cat Bob…”
And that led to Murphy going on to explain how his story about his cat ended, clearing up some worries from fans.
He said: “Surprisingly, there was a lot of interest, which surprised both of us, but yeah.
“He didn’t actually die, we did get him back six or seven weeks later.
“Unfortunately, he’d gone feral and we couldn’t reintegrate him into the home, and he ended up living with my friend’s parents in Preston!
“And that was the life he had, and now he has passed away, unfortunately, many years ago.
“Thanks for all the concern those that have been messaging us.”
Bower then finished with a simple: “RIP Bob.”
Now back to the game…
Murphy’s viral commentary story came to a close during Spain’s win over Austria on Thursday evening.
Mikel Oyarzabal scored twice, either side of Tottenham’s Pedro Porro, in a comfortable 3-0 victory in LA.
It sent the reigning European champions through to the last 16 of the World Cup, progressing further in the tournament.
Spain will now take on either Portugal or Croatia on July 6.
If it is Portugal, La Roja could end Cristiano Ronaldo’s international career by knocking his nation out after it was revealed by his sister that he would be hanging up his boots.
