Scotland’s Tartan Army have made such an impact at the World Cup, captain Andy Robertson is getting messages about it from his former employers.
The Scottish support has been one of the highlights of the tournament so far as they created a colourful atmosphere in Boston.
Scotland’s opening game was at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough as they made history with a 1-0 win over Haiti.
Their second game is against 2022 semi-finalists Morocco, live on talkSPORT on Friday night, and will also be at the Boston Stadium, as it is known for the 48-team event.
That’s meant that Boston, Massachusetts, has been the perfect base for the Tartan Army.
They have made it their home and have been drinking it dry and making friends with the locals.
Major League Baseball is the widely-regarded national past-time and, as such, Scotland fans got involved.
They went over to the Boston Red Sox‘s Fenway Park to take in their game against the Texas Rangers.
It was a sight to marvel with tartan, kilts, and the Scottish flag on display as they added another dimension to the atmosphere, clearly impressing the Red Sox’s owners, Fenway Sports Group.
Founders John W. Henry and Tom Werner are also the owners of Liverpool, Robertson’s former club after he completed a free transfer to Tottenham this summer.
And it was someone within FSG who sent Robertson a message about how loved the Scottish fans are after their appearance.
Asked about the incredible scenes involving Scotland fans, Robertson said: “I think the biggest compliment I can give them is I’m not surprised. I think that’s the biggest compliment I can give the Tartan Army.
“I think when they went to Germany, every city they were in, they fell in love with them. I think when they go to away games and qualifying campaigns, people fall in love with them. And I think Boston’s done the exact same.
“It’s been great to see the videos. It’s been great. You know, the video of the Red Sox games and stuff.
“I think the Liverpool owners were absolutely delighted that the Tartan Army were in.
“You know, one of them sent me a nice message. So they carry themselves so well. You’ve got to give them credit.
“They support the team, but also away from the football. They just carry themselves so well. And I think just every city they go into and every person they meet, they just fall in love with them.
“On Saturday, they were magnificent for us in the stadium as well and I know they’ll be the same again tomorrow. And around the city as well, they’ve conducted themselves so well. So I can’t speak highly enough of them.
“They’re the best in the world and I’m sure they’ll continue to do that.
Asked what message he had received, Robertson replied: “He was just saying that basically the Red Sox game had turned into the Tartan Army.
“I think he was quite happy to see different songs getting sang and the amount of kilts and the amount of Scotland shirts that were about the place.
“And yeah, I think they certainly made a party of it at the baseball game.”
