Australia are awaiting a potential clash with England in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final in what is set to be a blockbuster event at Lord’s on Sunday.
Nat Sciver-Brunt’s side play South Africa in the second semi-final at the Oval – live on Sky Sports Cricket at 6:30pm –and are one win away from setting up a mouth-watering clash against their historic rivals with the trophy on the line.
Rita Ora and Clean Bandit headline the closing ceremony – starting at 2:30pm – to bring to a close the most-watched Women’s T20 World Cup ever.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Who will play in the final?
A vaunted Australia side made it six wins out of six in the tournament and booked their place at Lord’s with a dominant eight-wicket win over West Indies on Tuesday, led by brilliant performances from Beth Mooney (61no off 36) and Ash Gardner (35no, 2-13).
The Matildas are unquestionably the team to beat, having beaten previous winners South Africa and pre-tournament favourites India on their way to a seventh T20 World Cup final in nine tournament appearances.
South Africa, meanwhile, have beaten England in their last two semi-final meetings – the 20-over version in 2023 and 50-over clash last year.
England, though have made it five wins out of five at the tournament, most recently beating reigning champions New Zealand in their last group stage match – and their captain Nat Sciver-Brunt fancies her side’s chances:
“It feels now that everyone is settled into the way we’re doing things and have really grown in confidence in their abilities.
“I think that has been shown on the pitch with different people choosing their moment to shine and show people what they can do.
“It’s a different time to how we felt in the previous World Cup or since the last two years. As a team you go through different ups and downs as you go through tournaments. The vibes are high.”
Who is performing at the closing ceremony?
Performances by Rita Ora and Clean Bandit bookend the final as part of the World Cup closing ceremony.
Rita Ora is an internationally renowned singer known for hit singles R.I.P and How We Do (Party), while Clean Bandit topped the UK charts with their song Rather Be in collaboration with Jess Glynne.
Ora will get proceedings underway with a performance – starting at 2:30pm – ahead of the match, before Clean Bandit will pull the curtain down on the tournament with a performance after the game.
Fans are advised to arrive at the ground at 2:00pm to ensure they are settled in time for the performances.
