Speaking on his decision via SDNA, Tsitsipas said: “The older I get, the more difficult it is for me to maintain a stable relationship with my father, compared to when I was a little kid, 18, 19, 20 years old.
“I believe that my father needs other things, just as I need different things. I felt it in the daily energy of our collaboration.
“I feel that we have reached a point where I am now looking for something completely different.
“I have been feeling lately that having my father by my side brings me comfort, but it is not the solution for me to take the next steps and do something different in my career.
“Of course, I love him very much and I want the best for him, but right now I am thinking about myself and what is best for me.”
When asked about potentially working with his father again, he said: “I don’t think I’ll be back there anymore. This is all very sensitive.
“It’s difficult because we’ve spent many years together on tour, but talking about it now I believe that we won’t be working together again in the future.
“Now I want to start making my own decisions and deciding for myself. I believe my father has a lot to offer my other siblings and children who are up and coming, young people, that’s where he should focus.
“I have other things in mind that I don’t think align with the way we’ve been working together lately.”
Tsitsipas will make his ninth appearance at Wimbledon, which is eyed as the most prestigious tournament in tennis.
A win over Gaston would set up a clash against Wu Yibing or Novak Djokovic in the second round.
Tsitsipas has reached the final of both the Australian Open and French Open but has never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon.
