Tottenham must go all out to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer.
That’s the opinion of former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who discussed the 28-year-old’s future on talkSPORT’s World Cup GameDay Live on Saturday.
The England forward enjoyed a successful loan spell at Barcelona in the 2025/26 season – chipping in with 14 goals and as many assists in 49 matches across all competitions.
But the LaLiga champions decided against activating the ÂŁ26million buy option in his contract.
As such, Rashford’s future is currently up in the air, with the winger not playing for United since December 2024 – spending the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Aston Villa.
Rashford still has two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford, so he would command a fee should he depart this transfer window.
Rashford would make his Marc at Spurs
And O’Hara would love to see Rashford head to Spurs, tipping him to thrive in north London.
Despite Rashford boasting a ÂŁ40m release clause – with two teams blocked from activating it – O’Hara thinks they could secure his services for cheaper.
He said: “I would love nothing more than for us [Spurs] to break the bank with wages and get him over the line.
“It ain’t going to cost you loads of money – what, ÂŁ30m, probably?
“You’re going to get him for nothing because they [Man United] need him off the wage bill.
“They don’t want him there, his future at Manchester United is gone, right?”
O’Hara continued: “The only reason he’d be integrated back into the team is if they can’t get rid of him.
“If they can come to some sort of deal and get Marcus Rashford at Tottenham, he would be a star player for us. He is still top drawer.”
Rashford’s journey so far
Rashford came through the ranks at United and broke into the first team aged 18, winning the club’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award for the 2015/16 season.
Having scored 138 goals for the club, Rashford’s form dipped and he found himself out of favour with Ruben Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag as head coach in November 2024.
Since then, Rashford has racked up 18 goals across those loan stints at Villa and Barcelona, regaining his place in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup – having been left out for Euro 2024.
And he’s played an important part in England’s World Cup campaign this summer already, coming off the bench to score in the Three Lions’ opening 4-2 win over Croatia.
His goal against Croatia was his 19th in 75 senior caps, having made his debut back in 2016.
Rashford made his first start of the tournament on Saturday, playing the full game as Tuchel’s side beat Panama 2-0 to reach the Round of 32 as Group L winners.
England face DR Congo in their first knockout game on Wednesday, and Rashford will hope he’s done enough to earn another start.
