The Japanese national team reportedly considered leaving Monterrey due to poor pitch conditions at their training base.
Japan will make their eighth World Cup appearance this summer and have arrived in Mexico for their pre-tournament preparations.
Centro de Entrenamiento Tigres (CET), the training ground of Tigres UANL, was their designated base for the week.
However, according to ESPN, Japan will now train at El Barrial, which is where C.F. Monterrey are based.
Why did Japan move their training in Mexico?
It is said that there were issues with the main training pitch at CET and so the Blue Samurai needed a change of location.
On Wednesday, Japan trained on the UANL School of Medicine fields.
C.F. Monterrey have agreed to host them for their preparations after speaking to Japanese officials.
beIN SPORTS have also claimed that the pitches at CET, which was inaugurated at the end of May, failed to reach the expected level.
Japanese coaching staff were concerned with the potential injury risk ahead of the World Cup.
“Japan could not train at the Tigres Training Centre because the fields were not in good condition,” Willie Gonzalez reported.
“The Japanese were preparing to leave Monterrey because they were upset. Tomorrow they will train at El Barrial, they requested a field from Rayados (C.F. Monterrey).”
El Barrial is the designated base camp for Tunisia during the World Cup from Monday, but Japan are not expected to interfere.
Japan will be based at Nashville SC’s training centre in Tennessee for the tournament.
Their state neighbours will be Spain, whose training base is the Baylor School in Chattanooga, around 113 miles south of Nashville.
How did Japan qualify for the World Cup, and who will they play?
Japan were drawn into Pot 1 of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualifying, which gave them a bye to the second round.
They won all six of their group matches, with 24 goals scored and zero conceded, to finish top and qualify for the third round.
Once again, Japan finished at the summit in their group to take one of the two automatic World Cups spots alongside Australia.
Japan are in Group F this summer along with Netherlands, Sweden and Tunisia.
Up first are Netherlands on June 14 and then it’s Tunisia a week later, with Sweden their last opponents on June 26.
The winner of Group F meets the second-place side in Group C, which will be one of Brazil, Morocco, Haiti and Scotland.
Group C’s winner will face the Group F runners-up in the last 32.
