Gervonta Davis has called out former mentor Floyd Mayweather after his rematch with Manny Pacquiao collapsed.
Mayweather looked set to have a busy 2026 with an exhibition first planned against Mike Zambidis in June in Greece.
The American was then slated to take on famous boxing rival Pacquiao in a blockbuster rematch in September, but both events ran into legal problems.
With Mayweather’s finances in question outside of the ring, as well as contractual issues, both events were postponed.
The boxing legend now faces a battle to get any of his events over the line, but could face Pacquiao in 2027 if issues can be resolved.
But with his instant future in turmoil, a new offer has come from a bizarre source.
Boxing superstar Davis, who was mentored and promoted by Mayweather until their split in 2022, has stunningly taken aim at his previous advisor.
The pair have been on awkward and unsteady terms ever since, and now ‘Tank’ has threatened to stir the pot further.
He wrote on social media: “I’ll take Floyd too. Tell him to suit up.”
It is not the first time the pair have spoken about a surprise clash, having feuded publicly in the past.
A showdown is very unlikely given Davis is far younger and in his physical prime, whereas Mayweather is beyond his peak.
For now, a clash is very unlikely although the veteran insists his stardom still makes him the ‘face of boxing’.
What next for Davis?
It has been a turbulent patch for the Baltimore southpaw, who hasn’t fought since a controversial draw with Lamont Roach in 2025.
His issues have come outside of the ring, where multiple warrants for his arrest have been issued.
And it has affected his in-ring activity, given his bout with Jake Paul last November was cancelled.
He was then ordered to defend his WBA title, that he briefly regained, against Floyd Schofield this year.
But that bout has been moved on too, with the American now losing his title and made a ‘champion in recess’.
It is unclear what could lay in wait next, but Davis has publicly spoken about bouts with Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.
