Chris Eubank Jr is now unlikely to fight Michael Zerafa in September.
That is because the Aussie has signed a new deal with Eddie Hearn, and will return in August on a card down under.
Zerafa and Eubank Jr had reportedly been in advanced talks over a clash, which was initially touted for two months time.
A target date of September had been put forward, but Zerafa had started that an agreement was very close.
However it has since been announced that ‘Pretty Boy’ has inked a deal with Matchroom Boxing and Hearn.
It is now impossible that Eubank Jr will be his next opponent, as he will return on an undercard next month.
His appearance will come on August 12 on the Gold Coast as a prelim to Teremoana Teremoana vs DeAndre Savage.
Of course a fight with the British star could come later in the year given he has signed a four-year deal with Hearn.
But Eubank Jr’s shaded past and turbulent relationship with the Matchroom Boxing kingpin could now make it hard for the pair to do business.
Hearn has admitted there would be several obstacles to him promoting Eubank Jr, thus it would make it tricky for the fight to now take place.
Zerafa said of the move: “I can’t say too much about what is coming.
“But there have been some massive opportunities promised – including a world title shot – so it is definitely exciting times.
“And my dream remains the same, to become a world champion.
“But now, with a proper structure in place, a proper team around me now – which Matchroom have sorted – it puts me back in line for that world title dream. I want the big fights.”
Who else could Eubank Jr fight?
Should Zerafa now not materialise, it is unclear exactly where ‘Next Gen’ could go.
After a raft of medical issues surrounding his two fights against Conor Benn, he is keen to return at 168lbs.
The Briton could well try to force himself into the world title mix given his commercial selling power.
Two huge money fights against either Canelo Alvarez or Hamzah Sheeraz could be on the table.
