He was linked with a return to the former in October after they sacked Russell Martin, but Gerrard chose not to go back to Ibrox.
Mousinho success at Portsmouth
Pompey named Mousinho as their head coach in January 2023 after the dismissal of Danny Cowley.
The 39-year-old had previously been in a player-coach role at Oxford United before making the move down to the south coast.
Mousinho won the League One title, and therefore promotion to the Championship, during his first full season at Fratton Park.
He has guided them away from relegation in back-to-back campaigns since then.
Pompey secured their spot in the 2026/27 Championship on April 21, despite being thrashed 5-1 by champions Coventry City.
Mousinho is under contract at the club until the summer of 2028.
However, he is planning to hold talks with their owners to discuss increasing his spending power.
