Brandon Aiyuk has his heart set on the Washington Commanders, but the Kansas City Chiefs could offer him an alternate landing spot.
The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver is set for a messy departure from the Bay Area, and it’s long been a case of when, not if, he leaves the team.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report believes Aiyuk could be the perfect player to take the pressure of Patrick Mahomes and an ageing Travis Kelce in 2026.

He proposed a trade package which would see Kansas City send a 2027 sixth-round draft pick to San Francisco for a seventh-round selection and Aiyuk.
“Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs simply cannot operate in the same manner as they did during the 2025 campaign,” Sobleski wrote.
“Changes are still necessary, with wide receiver serving as a significant question mark.
“Surprisingly, the Chiefs did little to address wide receiver this offseason despite the position being a glaring need.
“Kansas City drafted Cyrus Allen in this year’s fifth round, and the rookie certainly has the talent and skill set to exceed expectations.
“At the same time, the Chiefs should do more to improve the talent level on the outside considering Rashee Rice’s unreliability, Xavier Worthy’s continued development and Tyquan Thornton’s lack of production.
“A healthy Aiyuk brings a completely different skill set to take pressure off of Mahomes and aging tight end Travis Kelce.
“This point is particularly important for the 30-year-old signal-caller since he’s coming off a torn ACL and LCL.”
Sobleski added that if any team will take a chance on a player with potential baggage, that team is the Chiefs.
He wrote: “Kansas City is the franchise most willing to take a chance on talent even if major concerns are present.
“In this case, the organization can invest in a wide receiver who should be motivated by the fact it operates at a Super Bowl standard, while playing alongside the greatest quarterback of his generation.”
Aiyuk, arguably, would walk straight into the WR1 role with the Chiefs, given the recent struggles of Mahomes’ offense.
He’s a player capable of impressive production, proven by back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023, and could be the man to fire Kansas City back into Super Bowl contention.
