Bradley Barcola is a strong alternative for Liverpool after they missed out on the signing of Yan Diomande, talkSPORT understands.
Liverpool walked away from a deal to sign Diomande with the 19-year-old winger preferring a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Diomande has agreed a five-year deal to join the European champions and now it’s down to PSG and Diomande’s current club RB Leipzig to agree a deal for the transfer to be ratified.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has opened direct talks with the Bundesliga outfit and is confident the deal will get done.
However, Liverpool’s setback of missing out on Diomande could be immediately boosted with the signing of France international Barcola.
As talkSPORT previously told you, the 23-year-old is looking for a move away from PSG this summer.
Barcola, who has ten major trophies to his name, is representing France at the World Cup, featuring in all three of their matches so far, scoring once.
Liverpool lose out on Diomande
Liverpool had an £86.3million bid rejected for the 19-year-old winger, who was their priority target for the summer.
It’s understood that Liverpool were cautious of a repeat of last year’s transfer saga involving Alexander Isak.
They completed a club record £125m deal with Newcastle United for the striker on deadline day last summer.
Their pursuit of Isak lasted throughout the transfer window before the move was finally completed.
Liverpool’s bid for Diomande was worth £69m plus £17.3m in add-ons.
They are looking to sign another attacker or winger in addition to the squad following the arrival of Victor Munoz.
Munoz completed a move to Anfield after his £34m release clause was activated.
As well as Barcola, alternatives to Diomande include FC Koln’s Said El Mala, whose move to Brentford fell through, Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
Transfer business
Liverpool have already completed two new signings ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Alongside Munoz, centre-back Jeremy Jacquet will arrive at Anfield from Rennes.
The Reds completed the signing of the 20-year-old in February to bolster their back line.
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is also on Liverpool’s radar in a move that would see him work under Iraola again.
However, he is valued at £80m and their rivals Manchester United are also interested.
Furthermore, Cherries sources have doubled down on the stance that their ambitious owner Bill Foley does not want to cash in.
But the acquisition of Barcola would be a real statement from a Liverpool side looking to become serious title contenders again after a disappointing fifth-place finish last term.
