Raducanu has not played a competitive match since her agonising defeat to Donna Vekic in the final at Queens on June 14.

The Brit only returned to the tour in May following a two-month absence due to illness, which caused several tournament withdrawals.

She pulled out of the Nottingham Open 24 hours after her runners-up finish at Queens, with a change of schedule cited as the reason.

Raducanu, who was due to be in first-round action against Antonia Ruzic at 1pm on Monday, sat out Wimbledon practice on Thursday.

The 23-year-old then cut short a practice set with Anna Kalinskaya on Court 3 at 4-0 down on Saturday to ignite fears over her fitness.

Raducanu, who has been seen sporting heavy strapping across her leg and wearing an orthopaedic boot, has now confirmed the worst.

In a statement, the No. 30 seed said on her Instagram story: “Hi everyone, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but sadly I’ve had to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon.

“I’ve done everything possible to try to get to the start line tomorrow but after a final scan tonight, the niggle I’ve been managing has developed into a stress fracture.
