Trinidad and Tobago darts player James Walkin may have some awkward questions from his wife after his historic victory at the World Cup of Darts.
Walkin and Joshua Balfour secured a first ever win for the country as they beat Latvia 4-3 in a dramatic debut World Cup of Darts performance.
However, they were cruelly denied a place in the knockout stages because of an earlier defeat to Italy.
That did not dampen the mood too much for Walkin, who admitted the victory was better than his wedding day.
He even admitted that Mrs Walkin may not be too impressed with that verdict.
He said: “I went on that stage with butterflies in my stomach, and I told the girl yesterday, if you don’t get butterflies in your stomach for any endeavour in life, then it’s not worth doing.
“We have to embrace those nerves and the butterflies. It was the, I’m going to upset my wife now, best experience of my life. I have no children; the best experience of my life.
“Yeah, it was better than my wedding. It was fantastic.
“It is bittersweet to win. I will still cry, but not as much.”
Balfour added: “Not being able to get through having won the game is very disappointing.
“But at the end of the day, there are rules and points and other factors that need to be taken into consideration.
“It falls on us to go back to the drawing board and come back to fix it for next time.”
World Cup of Darts knockouts
The last-16 have been decided after a manic opening two days in the World Cup of Darts.
The 12 group winners will join the four seeds in the knockout stages.
The big drama came when France came back from 3-0 down to beat Austria 4-3 to take top spot.
Luke Littler and Luke Humphries begin their quest to win the title as they face Spain in the last-16 after suffering an early exit last time out.
Reigning champions Northern Ireland begin their quest to regain their title against Belgium.
Josh Rock, who will play alongside Daryl Gurney, said: “It is just very, very hard to believe that it’s already been a year.
“It has been a very quick year so I’m really looking forward to the pressure.
“I don’t know how Daryl’s feeling because I haven’t really spoken to him much about it.
“I don’t want to think about it much but I’m looking forward to defending this title.
“Obviously everyone is talking about England. Last year, no one really thought there was going to be anything but the Lukes were going to win it.
“So, it is probably the same feeling this year, even more so maybe this year, that because it didn’t happen last year they’re not going to let that happen again.
“You don’t know if they’re going to click or not again. Pairs is a completely different game than it is to singles, so it’s up to them to obviously get themselves a kick up the backside to work together. So that’s up to them.”
