Josh Simmons is entering the 2026 season with a brand new look.
The Kansas City Chiefs left tackle took to the podium to field questions from reporters on Tuesday, and many were left stunned at his body transformation.
After suffering a torn patella tendon during his final season at Ohio State, Simmons fell down the 2025 NFL Draft and landed right in the Chiefs’ lap at No. 32 overall.
It was certainly a gamble by the NFL juggernauts, but in the early stages of the 2025 season, it was one which initially looked to have paid off in abundance.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, Simmons earned a starting role protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes for the first five games, before going MIA due to an undisclosed family issue in Week 6.
The 22-year-old would return in Week 11, before suffering a dislocation and fracture in his wrist during the Week 13 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, which ultimately ended his rookie season.
In eight games played, Simmons registered 525 offensive snaps in which he allowed just two sacks, 18 pressures and 14 hurries.
Now, the former Buckeyes star is back to full health and appears to have taken full advantage of the offseason so far.
Chiefs players reported to mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and Simmons spoke to the media afterward about how he has undergone such a noticeable body transformation.
“I mean, it was kind of a side effect of just kind of working out every day,” Simmons said. “I’m just trying to get stronger.”
According to the young tackle, he now weighs between 285 and 290 pounds, though he hopes to be at the 300-pound mark by the time the Chiefs kickoff their 2026 campaign in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos on September 14.
Fans have mixed emotions on Simmons’ body transformation
Fans were quick to take to social media to voice their opinions over Simmons’ notably leaner and more muscular physique.
Some were praising Simmons such as one user who wrote, “It’s not every day that you see an offensive tackle ripped like that. 😮”
“I been telling people to stop sleeping on my LT! Sounds like the guy who takes things personally and all he did was put his head down block the noise and put in the workkkk 💪,” a second user commented.
Others, on the other hand, expressed concerns that he may now lack the extra pounds needed to protect his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
“285 pound tackle gonna get thrown around,” one user wrote, while a second added, “He needs to put some weight back on for sure.”
“I thought that was an edge rusher he might have gotten too in shape,” a third commented.
“Fans in here clamoring like this is a positive have zero idea what the LT position is all about. This is NOT good and I will bet Chiefs brass is NOT happy about this,” a fourth said.
But for Simmons, there is still four months of the offseason left to tack on the additional pounds that he wants to, and for now, his focus is on being consistent.
“I would say consistency,” Simmons told reporters of his main focus this offseason. “I wasn’t as consistent as I wanted to be.
“I think a lot of people could see that, so that’s probably something that I’m hammering right now. I would say making everything look the same—technique-wise, hand placement, stuff like that.
Despite two-time NFL MVP Mahomes suffering a torn ACL and LCL in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the expectation is that he could be ready to take to the field again by Week 1 of the 2026 season.
“He’s a dog,” Simmons said of Mahomes and his ongoing recovery. “That’s all I’m saying — he’s a dog.
“He’s going to be ready. He’s going to handle it.”
