Devin Haney is on a collision course with Keyshawn Davis.
In its latest rankings (dated May 28, 2026), the WBO installed Davis as the No.1 contender for Haney’s 147lbs title.
Haney is therefore on the verge of being ordered to make a mandatory defence of his burgundy and gold strap against Davis in a fight that is sure to capture the imagination of the American public.
Davis (15-0) picked up the WBO lightweight title in February 2025 when he halted Denys Berinchyk in four rounds.
However, he was stripped of his belt on the scales four months later when he missed weight by 4.3lbs for his first defence against Edwin De Los Santos.
The fight was subsequently cancelled, and Davis moved up to super lightweight, where he continued to have problems with his weight.
Davis needed two attempts to make the 140lbs limit before his unanimous decision victory over Nahir Albright in May.
The 27-year-old then passed up on a shot at the vacant IBF super lightweight against Lindolfo Delgado to compete at a more comfortable weight.
Davis replaces Jack Catterall at the top of the WBO rankings after the Brit opted to compete for a WBA ‘regular’ title against Shakhram Giyasov in Egypt last month.
Making up the rest of the top 5 are Manny Pacquiao, Teofimo Lopez, Arnold Barboza Jr, and the man against whom Haney won the WBO belt last November, Brian Norman Jr.
Haney (33-0) hasn’t set foot in the ring since becoming champion, as links with a move to Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing intensify.
He will, however, be expected to box this year, with the WBO’s mandatory order due in August.
