The decision to hand Nashville a Super Bowl could bode well for the Denver Broncos.
Music City will host the NFL’s biggest game in 2030, at the new Nissan Stadium, which is still under construction.
“The 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville was one of the greatest fan events in our history,” commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement last week.
“Super Bowl LXIV at the new stadium is the next step in this remarkable football journey.”
While Nashville’s $2.2 billion venue is close to completion, 1,150 miles away, the Denver Broncos are in early stages of planning a new home.
In September 2025, the $6.8 billion NFL franchise shared ambitious plans to build a privately funded stadium and mixed use district away from Mile High.
Burnham Yard, located just a mile east of where the Broncos currently play, was named as the preferred site for the new facility.
Initial plans suggest it could cost around $4bn, and feature a retractable roof.
Announcing the project, team co-owner and CEO Greg Penner said he hopes to turn the abandoned rail-yard into a year-round destination, and have it open in time for the 2031 NFL season.
The Walton-Penner group (mainly Rob Walton) own the Broncos. Walton is the richest owner in the NFL with an estimated net worth over $130 billion, largely derived from his family’s Walmart retail empire.
He is the wealthiest owner in all of professional sports.
Could Denver Broncos host a future Super Bowl?
Empower Field at Mile High is one of football’s most iconic venues, thanks to both the altitude of Denver and the atmosphere created by fans from the city.
The AFC Championship Game back in January was contested in brutal conditions, and reminded viewers what true ‘football weather’ looks like.
But those conditions are a hindrance to any hopes Denver has of hosting the Super Bowl.
These days, the NFL simply won’t play the game outdoors in bad weather.
Should the Broncos build a domed stadium, that could all change.
Jon Heath of Broncos Wire argues that Denver could follow Nashville’s Super Bowl timeline, and speculates the city could potentially be approved as a host while any stadium is still under construction.
“If the Broncos’ stadium opens in 2031, the team could potentially host a Super Bowl following the 2033 season (in early 2034),” Heath wrote.
“The NFL announced the Nashville Super Bowl four years early. If they did similar for Denver, a vote could happen as early as 2030.”
