California mom sentenced to 35 years for throwing alcohol-fueled underage parties

A California mother was sentenced Thursday to more than three decades in prison for holding alcohol-fueled, sexualized parties for teens.

Shannon O’Connor, also known as Shannon Bruga, was sentenced to serve a maximum sentence of 35 years and 10 months in state prison.

The Los Gatos woman was convicted in March on dozens of charges tied to parties involving underage drinking and sexual misconduct among teens. Prosecutors said she facilitated nonconsensual sexual activity between some of the minors.

O’Connor’s sentencing follows a hearing that began Tuesday, during which more than a dozen victims delivered impact statements.

O’Connor also spoke during the sentencing hearing Thursday.

“I wanted to take the time to address the court and all of the families involved, including mine,” O’Connor said. “For the past five years, I’ve had the chance and time to reflect on this case and what went wrong. I’m not here to make excuses for my actions.

“I’m fully aware about how you all feel about me. I know that you all entrusted me and I let you all down. Because of my actions or lack thereof I have been absent from my own children, missing major milestone and time that I can never get back. They as well as your sons and daughters have suffered. They have lived these past five years parentless.”
