He said: “I would strengthen up front. I do think we’ve got to get a striker in. There are a number of strikers out there.
“I mean [Jean-Philippe] Mateta at Crystal Palace looks good or Omar Marmoush, but can you get Marmoush out of Manchester City?
“Can you get somebody like Goncalo Ramos at PSG, who comes off the bench a lot but never starts? Is that a possibility?

“And the McTominay argument, Napoli are working on giving him a new contract up to 2032 at Napoli. There’s a question he could be bought for maybe £65million. It sounds a lot, but I really do feel he’d help transform Newcastle.”
To warn off any potential buyers, Napoli have already initiated contract extension talks.
Discussions have started in order to extend his stay until 2030, with a year extension, which would be complemented with a salary increase to reflect his performances on the pitch.
McTominay has previously spoken about his situation: “My agent has not communicated with anyone regarding my future. He only speaks with me and with the club.
“He hasn’t said anything to the newspapers. I am extremely happy here and, as far as I am concerned, I am a Napoli player; it is all I think about. The future is very important and I could see myself in Napoli for a long time.”

Despite McTominay’s contentment in Italy, Clery believes Newcastle must show ambition, while warning the board not to get dragged into unwinnable bidding wars against Europe’s elite tier.
He said: “I would love Scott McTominay. I mean the number one player we should be looking to bring in is Elliot Anderson.
“However, he is going to leave for £100million and treble, if not quadruple, his wages.
“It’s another player who is playing for a club, in that a move to Newcastle should be a really big deal, but we will simply be outspent by the clubs in the tier above us.
“He is the absolute perfect profile for anything we’d want to do next year. Same with someone like Morgan Gibbs-White, that would be fantastic.
“But if bigger fish are sniffing around these players, as we saw last summer. I think it’s imperative they actually just get their ducks in a row before they start putting these bids in.
“Because we can’t have another summer of thinking Joao Pedro is going to come, of thinking Liam Delap is going to come, of thinking Bryan Mbeumo is going to come, or thinking Benjamin Sesko is going to come.
“Then a bigger club just comes along and goes, “Well, you’re not going to put them on 200 grand, though, are you?”
