Mauricio Sulaiman said: “Agit is the WBC Interim Champion and Mandatory Contender for Oleksandr Usyk. He has earned his stripes.
“The fight between Agit and Oleksandr has to happen this year. We will order it and then we will see.
”Agit has a great ability to punch to the body. He`s not as tall as most heavyweights, but he has a huge heart.”
Verhoeven to receive ranking
Despite now facing an unfortunate wait to see if he can step in the ring with Usyk again, it isn’t all doom and gloom.
Verhoeven wanted to make a big splash in boxing, and he certainly did on the night.
And now after his success despite defeat, Sulaiman confirmed he will indeed receive a world ranking.
When pressed on how high it could be, he replied: “I believe the right thing would be Rico is going to get ranked for sure by the WBC.
“And he deserves to fight again for the world title.
“It’s a matter of the ratings committee, but I would say top, top, top.
“We took a lot of criticism, and now we will not hear anything said. The result was it.”
The WBC elected to sanction the bout with Verhoeven having the chance to win their belt, unlike the IBF and WBA.
And he came ever so close to doing so with the scorecards likely to go right down to the wire, if he had survived.
