Leicester City have confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles will be leaving the club this summer – just three months after signing him.
Lascelles departed Newcastle United after nearly 12 years to join the Foxes in February on a deal until the end of the season.
And following Leicester’s relegation to League One, the centre-back’s contract has expired, with the club opting not to renew.
It means his spell at the King Power Stadium has come to an end after a matter of weeks.
At 32 years old, Lascelles left Newcastle, where he was considered one of the club’s greatest leaders, to drop down to the Championship.
He was brought in by Leicester to help provide some valuable experience and fight amid their dismal campaign.
However, the defender would go on to play just nine games, and he was unable to prevent relegation to the third tier.
Lascelles’ future had remained unknown since relegation, but the Foxes confirmed their released list on Sunday.
The veteran was one of those let go, with his contract expiring.
So, he will be a free agent heading into the summer transfer window, with many other clubs sure to be interested.
Lascelles’ experience will be a huge attraction, following his nearly 12-year spell at Newcastle and time with Nottingham Forest.
He played more than 250 times for the Magpies and 65 times for Forest before his short stint with Leicester this year.
Who else has left Leicester?
Lascelles is one of 10 players to be released by Leicester this summer after they were relegated to League One.
£23million striker Patson Daka will be leaving and so will Jordan Ayew, with both of their contracts expiring.
Daka only scored five Championship goals this season in 41 appearances, providing four assists alongside that.
Meanwhile, Ayew only bettered that tally by one, netting just six times in 42 league appearances.
Foxes academy graduate Wanya Marcal is also leaving the club, but goalkeeper Asmir Begovic remains in contract discussions.
And as well as Begovic, contract offers have been sent to Silko Thomas and multiple other youth team players.
Jordan James, who won the Championship’s Young Player of the Year award this season, will return to parent club Rennes.
James’ fellow loanees Aaron Ramsey, Joe Aribo, Dujuan Richards and Divine Mukasa are all heading back to their clubs too.
Also departing are youth players Jake Donohue, Jahmari Lindsay, Alfie Fisken, Toby Onanaye, Olaoluwa Omobolaji and Chris Popov.
