Huddersfield have announced that Liam Manning will not be returning as their manager next season.
Manning had taken a step back from the club after being granted compassionate leave for the rest of the season in March.
The 40-year-old lost his newborn son, Theo, in October 2024 while he was manager of Bristol City.
Manning took a two-week leave of absence immediately after the tragedy and then additional time off earlier this year.
And Huddersfield issued an update on his situation on Monday, releasing a statement to say he will be leaving the club.
The club wrote: “Huddersfield Town can today confirm that Liam Manning will not return to the club as head coach following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
“Liam was granted compassionate leave on 25 March 2026, having made the club aware of ongoing personal matters relating to the tragic passing of his newborn son Theo in October 2024.
“While Liam stepped away from his professional duties during this time, Town officials and Liam have been in consistent contact.
“Following the most recent conversations, this decision has been mutually agreed in the best interest of Liam, his family and the club.”
Within the statement, Manning said: “Stepping down from Huddersfield Town has been a difficult decision, but one I feel is best for the club, my family and myself at this time.
“It has been a privilege to manage this team and be a part of this community.
“I am grateful to the fans for their support and compassion in recent months.
“The understanding and care from the club has gone above and beyond, and I would like to thank Kevin Nagle [owner], Chris Markham [sporting director], the wider first team staff and players for their professionalism, commitment and dedication in my absence.
“Although my time was shorter than I had hoped, I am grateful for the opportunity Kevin Nagle entrusted in me and wish nothing but success for Huddersfield Town moving forwards.”
Manning’s Huddersfield tenure
Manning was appointed Huddersfield manager in January after previous boss Lee Grant was dismissed.
He went on to take charge of 13 games for the Terriers, winning five, drawing three and losing five.
They went unbeaten in his first four matches before struggling to keep up that form in the following weeks.
After Manning left, Martin Drury and Jon Stead led the club for the remainder of the season.
And they ended up finishing ninth in League One, missing out on a place in the third-tier play-offs.
Manning began last season as Norwich manager after narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League with Bristol City.
He swapped clubs in the Championship after the Robins were beaten by Sheffield United in the play-off semi-finals.
His stock was high after an impressive campaign at Ashton Gate and Leicester also considered appointing him.
However, the Englishman was sacked by the Canaries last November, just 17 matches into his reign at Carrow Road.
Manning then joined Huddersfield, but his tenure only lasted three months.
