Ronda Rousey doesn’t anticipate she will fight on beyond her comeback clash with Gina Carano.
But she could be tempted if her rivalry with Carano isn’t concluded by the end of their bout in May.
Rousey will end a nine-year hiatus from professional MMA to make a mammoth return in a clash with Carano on May 16.
The historic main event will headline a mammoth bill promoted by Jake Paul, which will be the first from MMA broadcast on Netflix.
Previously, Rousey refused to commit to competing in the cage given her history with concussions.
And she doesn’t anticipate she will make a longer term comeback, unless her rivalry with Carano demands it.
She explained on The Breakfast Club: “I’m done fighting after this,”
“Unless something goes down in this match that it deserves a trilogy from me and Gina.
“But I promised my husband, I promised my sister, everybody that this is my last one. I want to have more kids, too.
“We make money so we can spend our time how we want with who we want where we want. I already have that.
“If I’m going spending time away from my family to make more money that’s not going to change our situation at all, what are you doing? It’s just dragon sickness.
“Keep in mind what you’re doing these things for. I’m doing it for them. I don’t want to spend more time away from them trying to get more money that they don’t need.”
Rousey and Carano have been hugely respectful of one another in the build-up but it remains to be seen if fireworks will unfold in their duel.
Rousey – why the MMA trailblazer has come back
Rousey was part of the first ever female UFC fight, a record-breaking clash with Liz Carmouche in 2013.
She became a real trailblazer for women’s sport and a superstar overnight.
During her stint, she reigned as champion and fought some of the best including Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.
Although now beyond her physical prime, there is real commercial interest in the American getting back involved with the sport.
And with a real lull in women’s MMA, her name back in the mix is a welcome addition.
