Vincent Kompany’s managerial rise comes as no surprise to his former player Josh Brownhill.
The Bayern Munich boss is on the cusp of a historic campaign just short of two years into his tenure.
Kompany’s men wrapped up a record-extending 35th Bundesliga title with four games to play.
They have also booked their spot in the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) final against VfB Stuttgart later this month.
And there is also the small matter of a possible Champions League final should they overcome holders Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday at the Allianz Arena.
Eyebrows were raised when Bayern opted for Kompany shortly after watching his Burnley side slip to relegation to the Championship.
However, back-to-back league titles and a looming treble have erased all doubt that the former Manchester City hero has a bright career in football management ahead of him.
But that would not have been news to Brownhill who spent two years under Kompany at Turf Moor.
Brownhill: Kompany has an ‘addiction’ to improvement
The midfielder now plays his club football in the Saudi Pro League with Al Shabab but that hasn’t stopped him from keeping close tabs on the fortunes of his former boss.
“He’s done incredible. We all knew he would,” Brownhill told the Saudi Pro League’s official website.
“For us, it’s not really a surprise him going from Burnley to Bayern Munich.
“Maybe to a lot of people it is, but when you see his dedication, his knowledge of football, his addiction to being a manager, it’s crazy.
“So, if he didn’t make it to the top, I wouldn’t really know who’s going to make it. You see now Bayern have been dominating pretty much every game.
“And, if he gets over the line in the Champions League when he’s already won the league there and they’re in the cup final, it’s an even more incredible season to be fair.
“But again, I’m not surprised. I can only speak highly of Vincent. Obviously, it was a shame we went down with him, but, like I say, football is very difficult. The Premier League is very difficult. If you don’t have the top players, it’s very hard.”
Asked what attributes have made Kompany such a huge success, Brownhill added: “His work ethic is great. He’s the first one in by a long way and last one to leave.
He continued: “It’s his everyday tactics. He watches every game; he can change formation three, four, five times and every player knows what they’re doing.
“When he first came into Burnley, it was amazing to see. And I’m definitely very happy that I got to play under him.”

Kompany has constructed a balanced and well-drilled team as he aims to take Bayern back to the top of world football.
The five-time Champions League winners fell below expectations in the years preceding Kompany’s arrival, eventually losing out on their Bundesliga crown to Bayer Leverkusen.
However, the Belgian quickly wrestled back domestic dominance while making savvy moves in the transfer market with the additions of Jonathan Tah, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz.
And there appeared to be no letting up in his quest to build a world-class squad with Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon a target in the summer transfer window.
Kompany, whose initial contract at Bayern ran until 2027, extended his deal in October until 2029 with club bosses delighted at his output since arriving in Bavaria in 2024.
Upon extending his contract, Kompany said: “I’m grateful, honoured and would like to thank FC Bayern for the trust and the working environment they’ve given me from day one.
“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far. We’ve started on a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and celebrate much more success!”
